Ï is used in the ISO 9:1995 system of Ukrainian transliteration as the Cyrillic letter Ї. Afrikaans, Dutch and FrenchIn Afrikaans, Dutch and French, <ï> is used where two vowels are next to one another and indicates the correct emphasis and pronunciation of such a word. For example in words like Maïs (Dutch/French), Oekraïne (Dutch/Afrikaans) or in the girl's name Aïda. See also
