Berna was a Swiss car company produced beforeWorld war one for a short period of time in Bern and Olten.

History

The company, founded by Joseph Wyss, first appeared when S.A.F.B.(Schweizerische Automobil Fabrik Berna) changed its name to 'Moterwerke Berna AG' in 1906. Wyss was the first to design cars for this company.

Automobiles

The first car, made in 1902, was the Berna Vis-à-Vis Idéal. Another model was powered by one-cylinder engines, which were placed on the rear. In 1903, A new car called the Unicum was produced with the engine placed on the front and the back wheels were powered by chains. Berna also produced trucks along with Saurer. The truck models were the Berna 4VF and the Berna LKW.

Company shutdown

During 1905 and 1907, the company produced lorries, but the manufacturer of lorries did not make enough money. In 1907, Wyss sold the company. Locher, the new owner of the company, eventually went bankrupt. The companies Berna and Saurer were absorbed by the Daimler-Benz corporation.
