Combinatorics is a branch of mathematics that studies finite collections of objects that satisfy specified criteria, and is in particular concerned with "counting" the objects in those collections (enumerative combinatorics) and with deciding whether certain "optimal" objects exist (extremal combinatorics). One of the most prominent combinatorialists of recent times was Gian-Carlo Rota, who helped formalize the subject beginning in the 1960s. The prolific problem-solver Paul Erdős worked mainly on extremal questions. The study of how to count objects is sometimes thought of separately as the field of enumeration.cs:Kategorie:Kombinatorika da:Kategori:Kombinatorik de:Kategorie:Kombinatorik es:Categoría:Combinatoria eo:Kategorio:Kombinatoriko fr:Catégorie:Analyse combinatoire ko:분류:조합론 io:Category:Kombinatoriko id:Kategori:Kombinatorik is:Flokkur:Fléttufræði it:Categoria:Combinatoria he:קטגוריה:קומבינטוריקה lt:Kategorija:Kombinatorika hu:Kategória:Kombinatorika nl:Categorie:Combinatoriek ja:Category:組合せ論 pl:Kategoria:Kombinatoryka pt:Categoria:Combinatória ro:Categorie:Combinatorică ru:Категория:Комбинаторика sk:Kategória:Kombinatorika sl:Kategorija:Kombinatorika sr:Категорија:Комбинаторика fi:Luokka:Kombinatoriikka sv:Kategori:Kombinatorik ta:பகுப்பு:சேர்வியல் th:หมวดหมู่:คณิตศาสตร์เชิงการจัด vi:Thể loại:Toán học tổ hợp uk:Категорія:Комбінаторика
