The independence of the modern State of Israel was achieved in 1948 after more than sixty years of efforts by Zionist leaders to establish sovereignty and self-determination in the Jewish National Homeland, and as such, entries refering to Zionism before 1948 are in the subcategory Category:Zionism. Events in Jewish history preceding the modern Zionist movement belong in Category:Land of Israel.
