Employee engagement is a measure of the degree to which employees are mentally and physically invested in their jobs. Due to the fact that employee productivity is closely correlated with employee engagement, employee engagement is one of the most important measures of effectiveness in human capital management. Employee engagement is noted to depend largely upon:
- Employee perceptions of job importance
- Employee clarity of job expectations
- Career advancement/improvement opportunities
- Regular feedback and dialogue with superiors
- Quality of working relationships with peers, superiors, and subordinates
