Guangxi University (abbreviation: Xi Da (西大); Chinese: 广西大学; Pinyin: Guangxi Daxue) is a state university, located in Nanning, capital of Guangxi, China. HistoryGuangxi University was established in October 1928. Its first president was the celebrated scientist and educator Ma Junwu. In 1936, Guangxi University was molded into a comprehensive university with disciplines in the liberal arts, sciences, engineering, agriculture and medicine. In 1939, Guangxi University developed into a national university and by 1949 it expanded into one with 5 colleges and 22 departments. In 1952, Mao Zedong inscribed the name for the university. His calligraphy is still in use today. In 1952, College of Agriculture became independent as Guangxi Agricultural College. In 1997 the former Guangxi University and the former Guangxi Agricultural University merged and formed the new Guangxi University. Disciplines
