Hirson is a commune in the Aisne département in northern France. It is a few miles south of the border with Belgium, and was in the past an important strategic position due to being near the intersection of several railway lines. As of 1911, there was a permanent fort and two artillery batteries near the railway junction. Also at that time, the town was engaged in the manufacture of glass bottles, tiles and iron and tin goods, as well as wool-spinning and brewing. de:Hirson fr:Hirson it:Hirson pam:Hirson nl:Hirson pl:Hirson vo:Hirson | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
