Little India MRT Station (NE7) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North East Line in Singapore and as the name implies, serves the ethnic neighbourhood of Little India. On the North East line, it is between the Dhoby Ghaut Interchange and Farrer Park MRT stations. Because it is an underground MRT station and has a ventilation system complete with air-conditioning, it is deep enough to shield those inside. Hence, it has the peripheral role of being a bomb shelter. This explains why the station consists of two levels. This station was built in the heart of Little India, with Tekka Centre and Tekka Mall within walking distance of the station. This station is proposed to be an interchange station to the future Downtown MRT Line. The artwork featured under the Art in Transit programme is Memoirs of the Past by S. Chandrasekaran. The animal paintings echos the past of Little India when buffalo stables were seen. Station exits
