Nantan (南丹市 Nantan-shi?) is a city located in Kyoto, Japan.

As of June 1, 2006, the city has an estimated population of 36,338. The total area is 616.31 km².

The city was founded on January 1, 2006 by the merger of the former towns of Sonobe, Yagi, Hiyoshi, and Miyama. The name of Nantan stands for "southern Tamba".

The term 'Nantan' can also apply to a very famous iron meteorite of several tonnes that broke up and fell in many separate pieces over China (not Japan) in the 16th century.
