Pat Sin Leng

Pat Sin Leng is a mountain range in the northeast New Territories of Hong Kong. The name Pat Sin Leng literally means "Mountains of the Eight Immortals", who are famous xian ("immortals; transcendents; fairies") in Chinese Mythology, and symbolizes the eight peaks along the Pat Sin Leng mountain range, each named after a different Immortal.

Pat Sin Leng Fire

A fire broke out on Pat Sin Leng on 10 February 1996, when a group of 49 teachers and students from HKCWC Fung Yiu King Memorial Secondary School were hiking on the mountains. 200 firemen and 4 helicopters were used to rescue the group, but two teachers, Chow Chi-Tsai (traditional chinese:周志齊) and Wong Shuo Mei (traditional chinese:王秀媚) and three students died with 13 others injured as a result.

Spring Breeze Pavilion (traditional chinese: 春風亭) was built on the mountain in memory of the two teachers and the three students who died. It was inaugurated by then the Hong Kong Governor, Chris Patten, on 12 March 1996.
