The quart[1] is an imperial and US customary unit of volume equal to a quarter of a gallon. Since gallons of various sizes have historically been in use, quarts of various sizes have also existed. Three of these quarts remain in current use, all approximately equal to one liter. Definitions
Winchester quartA Winchester quart is an archaic measure [7], roughly equal to 2 Imperial quarts or 2.25 litres. The 2.5 litre bottles, in which laboratory chemicals are supplied, are sometimes referred to as Winchester quart bottles although they contain slightly more than a traditional Winchester quart.
